Facebook has introduced free video calling to its standalone Messenger app. Users can now make video calls using data or WiFi on Android and iOS app.
To start a video call, users tap the video camera icon in the upper right corner of the chat window. Video calling through the app can be done even if one person is on iOS and the other is on Android. Facebook Messenger now accounts for more than 10 percent of all mobile VoIP calls globally, according to the social network. More regions will be added in the coming months.
The Facebook video calling feature is available in the UK, US, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal and Uruguay. Facebook says it will be available in other regions in the coming months.Messenger also boasts 600 million monthly active users worldwide Facebook Messenger will now competes with similar products including Microsoft’s Skype, Google Hangouts, and Apple’s FaceTime.
