Google Play to add new app categories to make finding them easier
As an Android user, there is no shortage of apps available on the Google Play Store that allow you to make the most out of your smartphone experience. On the flip side, however, you may have often found it difficult to locate one for a particular task, among the scores out there. Well, Google just heard your concerns, and will soon add new app categories to the Play Store as well, while also making changes to the existing ones.
Eight new categories will be added to the Play Store, including Art & Design, Auto & Vehicles, Beauty, Dating, Events, Food & Drink, House & Home, and Parenting. The Transportation category will be renamed to Maps & Navigation, while the Media & Video category will be changed to Video Players & Editors.
The addition of new categories and changes made to those already available should now make your search experience on the Play Store much easier. For instance, if you’re searching for the dating app Tinder, which can currently be found under the Lifestyle category, it will now be shifted to Dating, to make it more discoverable.
If you’re a developer, the new categories will help you bring your apps to more users by making them easier and faster to find. Whichever way you look at it, it’s a win-win for both Android app users and developers. These newly added categories will be found in the Play Store within 60 days, but developers can re-categorize their apps now.
